I raided my grandmothers' closet last week and discovered really cool statement pieces that are all timeless, unique and trendy. I specifically found an outdated maxi dress that cut off at an awkward length but I was obsessed with the soothing color scheme and its cool floral print. So, I decided to cut it and make it into a shorter dress and with the excess fabric, I created a strapless blouse and attached a suede tie in the back to add something sexy yet classy to it.

Finding old clothes and creating something new with it is something I love to do. No one else has this top, it's comfortable, it's dressy, it's flattering and it's seductive without being too showy. Although a garment may look weird at first, try imagining something different with it. Cut it, add fringes, make it distressed, dye it, paint on it - the possibilities are endless! Raid through your mom's closet, go thrifting or pick out old pieces from your wardrobe and do something dope with it!

After these past few humid days on the East Coast, and only wearing shorts and tank tops since it's too hot to wear anything else, we've been dreaming of Fall outfits and layering our favorite pieces. Summer fashion is nice, don't get us wrong, but after wearing the same jean skirt 3 days in a row or wearing the same maxi dress every Saturday night, we get sick of our summer wardrobe and start dreaming about leather jackets, ankle boots and cashmere sweaters.

Fall has always been our favorite season; it's not too cold and it's not too warm, so it's still socially acceptable to wear shorts with a sweater and boots, or wear a turtleneck, jeans and sandals. However, we're mostly excited to layer on our favorite pieces: tees under slip dresses, sweaters under jackets, socks under boots and so forth.

For this season, we're trying to opt out the monochrome full look (disclaimer, we'll still be wearing mostly black and white), and mix in bold colors. For the Fall, we want to invest in more statement pieces that could amplify an outfit, whether it be statement heels, fur vests, scarves, bags or pants. But until then, here's a moodboard for the pieces we cannot wait to buy next month.

Denim skirts are back. I swapped out ripped cut offs and I now consider this mini to be the newest staple in my closet. It was hard to find the ideal denim skirt since I wanted it to be frayed, ripped, the perfect color and the perfect length. Although a vintage Levi's is what came to my mind prior to finding the one I'm wearing, I came across this a few months ago at Zara and instantly fell in love. This store never fails to satisfy my fashion craves and with it's normal price range, it makes it easy for the outfits in my mind to come to life! For days where it's too hot to wear jeans or for days I'm not really feeling shorts (I hate walking and having to pull them down), I throw this on and I instantly feel like my 10 year old girly self (yet in a more sophisticated way, of course).

For a casual day, I paired this mini with a classic crisp white tee, which is now my favorite shirt I own and only cost $19, score. I mixed metals by wearing a clay bag with a silver chain, black heeled boots with a silver zipper, a gold watch and silver framed sunglasses. Plus, I wore a matte silver vintage choker, which was once my moms' belt.

To make this look more nighttime, I can easily throw on a leather jacket or a blazer and call it a day. And this is why I call a denim skirt a staple piece - it can be dressed up or down.
